The XCAP System

From Waveforms to Decision Support

XCAP is designed to turn energy data into actionable operational insight and help mountain resorts extend the useful life of critical DC ropeway assets. It collects and analyzes real-time electrical data, synchronizing measurements across multiple systems to support informed decisions about capacity, demand, system performance, equipment condition and maintenance timing.

Easy to deploy

Install quickly with minimal disruption to existing operations, controls or networks.

decision focused

Every measurement and output should support a clear operational, maintenance or infrastructure decision.

trusted data

Measurements must be accurate, reliable and time-synchronized so conclusions can be confidently acted upon.

scalable by design

A common architecture should expand across lifts, snowmaking, buildings and electrical infrastructure without replacing the core platform.

MAKE DC BRUSH MAINTENANCE MORE PREDICTABLE

XCAP correlates electrical measurements with operating state to show how indicators associated with brush and commutator behaviour vary across high- and low-load conditions. By establishing a long-term baseline, teams can recognize changes worth investigating, focus inspections on relevant operating conditions, support brush performance tuning and verify whether maintenance or adjustments produced a lasting improvement. The result is better evidence for maintenance timing and less reliance on reactive brush replacement.

BUILD HISTORICAL EVIDENCE TO FOCUS TROUBLESHOOTING

XCAP builds a long-term, time-synchronized record of normal motor and drive behaviour across changing passenger loads, starts, stops, operating seasons and maintenance activities. When an intermittent concern emerges, operators can review earlier events, identify recurring patterns and compare the affected period with similar operating conditions. This historical evidence can help specialists focus their time on specific events and conditions, making troubleshooting more targeted and potentially reducing the time and cost required to investigate difficult-to-reproduce problems.

The XCAP Family

Our work across industrial systems, mountain resorts and utilities revealed a common challenge: valuable electrical data was often delayed, fragmented or difficult to apply when operational, forecasting and maintenance decisions needed to be made. XCAP was developed to close that gap—delivering fast, accurate and time-synchronized electrical insight while operating in parallel with existing control and safety systems.

All of our products are certified for use in Canada.

XCAP Trailline

XCAP Core

The Core is the communications and power aggregator for the XCAP system. This unit is central to our expandable and scalable design. All XCAP units connect to the Core via wired Power-Over-Ethernet or LoRaWAN wireless technologies.

WAN connectivity is provided through wired Ethernet, Starlink (not included), 5G Cellular or Local Wi-Fi.

XCAP Highline 4DC

XCAP 4DC

Designed specifically for DC motor powered ropeway applications, the 4DC features a high resolution, 4-channel signal acquisition unit and onboard machine learning capabilities to aid in condition monitoring and anomaly detection.

Standard kits include 2- 2000A DC Transducers and 2- 1000V DC Differential Voltage Probes.

XCAP Waveline AC Meter

XCAP 3AC

The 3AC is an industrial rated, 3-phase AC measurement system, and is based on Phoenix Contact’s Empro series of power measurement devices. The 3AC provides a cost effective and quickly deployed method for collecting AC power systems data, including power quality and demand energy. We have kits available to measure 600 Volts, up to 25 kV in outdoor versions as well as retrofit solutions for space constrained switchgear.

Frequently asked questions

Is XCAP a replacement for SCADA?

No. SCADA is excellent at monitoring and controlling processes. XCAP complements SCADA by providing a separate analytics layer focused on electrical performance, energy, capacity, condition, and long-term operational insight.

Why not just collect more data through our SCADA system?

More data does not necessarily create better decisions. XCAP uses independent time-series data, purpose-built metering and analytics to capture information that may not exist in SCADA, may not be collected at sufficient resolution, or may be difficult to analyze across different equipment vendors or time intervals.

What does “out-of-band” mean?

XCAP operates independently of the systems responsible for controlling your operation. This separation allows XCAP to provide monitoring and analytics without requiring the core platform to become part of the operational control path.

What problems is XCAP designed to solve?

XCAP helps answer questions such as: Where is our electrical capacity going? What is driving our peak demand? Why is an asset behaving differently? Are power-quality issues affecting equipment? Are operating conditions changing before a failure occurs?

How is XCAP different from traditional remote monitoring platforms?

Traditional monitoring platforms are often built around a particular controller, equipment manufacturer, or asset type. XCAP is designed to provide a broader, vendor-independent view of the electrical system and connect information across assets, services, and operating conditions.

How does XCAP add value if we already have SCADA, meters, and dashboards?

XCAP complements existing systems rather than replacing them. It gives SCADA developers and operators a specialized analytics layer for high-resolution electrical metering, energy and capacity analysis, condition monitoring, and cross-platform visibility, while allowing SCADA to remain focused on reliable process control.

As XCAP evolves, it can also provide a view-only integration layer for data from SCADA, meters, and other platforms, giving users a more unified operational picture without forcing any one system to do everything.

Does XCAP control equipment?

No. The core XCAP platform is intentionally passive and out-of-band. Where an application requires operational action, controlled integration can be provided through separate purpose-built modules while maintaining separation from the core analytics platform.

Do you charge more for multiple users accessing the XCAP dashboard?

No. XCAP does not charge based on the number of dashboard users. Pricing is based on the equipment connected to the XCAP platform, such as the number of XCAP Aggregators deployed, allowing your operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to access the information they need without additional per-user fees.

If I purchase an XCAP Aggregator and AC analytics kit now, can I add a second AC kit and/or DC analytics on my chairlift later?

Yes. XCAP is designed as a modular, expandable platform, allowing additional monitoring capabilities to be added as your operational needs evolve. A Version 1 XCAP Aggregator can support up to three hardwired downstream devices, located approximately 25 metres from the Aggregator, with power and communications provided through Power over Ethernet (PoE).

Is XCAP certified for use in Canada?

Yes. XCAP equipment supplied for installation in Canada is inspected and field labelled by Intertek through the Special Inspection process, providing third-party verification that the equipment meets applicable Canadian electrical safety requirements.

What is the advantage of real-time visibility?

Real-time visibility confirms data is being received and lets users review conditions as they occur. This reduces the risk of discovering weeks later that a temporary logger was disconnected, misconfigured, unpowered, or failed to record usable data.

We already use a portable power-quality analyzer or data logger. Why install XCAP?

Portable tools support temporary investigations. XCAP provides permanently installed, connected electrical analytics—building a live, long-term record across priority feeders and assets to support operating, maintenance, capacity, and capital-planning decisions.

Is XCAP just another data logger?

No. A data logger records measurements for later review. XCAP combines permanent measurement, live connectivity, historical data, and purpose-built analytics to identify capacity use, peak-demand drivers, changing equipment behaviour, and emerging operational risks.

Does XCAP replace a portable power-quality analyzer?

Not for formal compliance studies, high-speed transient investigations, or specialist root-cause analysis. The tools are complementary: XCAP identifies priority assets or changing conditions; a portable analyzer can then support a detailed investigation when required.

Can XCAP be moved between assets?

Yes. XCAP can be redeployed between priority assets when a temporary assessment is appropriate. Permanent installation delivers the greatest value by creating a continuous operating record, establishing a baseline, and revealing changes that may not be apparent during a short-term study.
